With Watercel ZF it is possible to treat up to 11,0 mg/L of total iron (Fe(II) and Fe(III)) and 6,0 mg/L of total manganese (Mn(II) and Mn(IV)), making your water potable for consumption or available for industrial processes, avoiding scaling in pipes and stains on equipment. However, there are route options with the objective of extending the useful life of the filter media or reducing the intervals between backwash stages, one of these possibilities being prior sedimentation for high values of total iron or total manganese.

In an application for water use in a Water Park in the state of São Paulo, Watercel ZF was used as filter media for iron and manganese removal.

The raw water to be treated has 7,88 mg/L of total iron and 0,97 mg/L of total manganese. After extraction from the well, pH correction and free chlorine addition are performed. Then, the water is sent to a sedimentation tank and directed to a filter with Watercel ZF.

If sedimentation did not occur, it would be necessary to use a GRP vessel 42×72, 23 m³/h of backwash flow rate and 875 kg of Watercel ZF. With prior sedimentation, it was possible to use a GRP vessel 36×72, 550 kg of Watercel ZF and 16 m³/h of backwash, approximately 30% of water savings per backwash, savings in filter material, savings in equipment (GRP vessel), in addition to extending the filtration run from 5 to 19 hours.

Thus, it was possible to treat 9 m³/h, with a total iron value of approximately 3,00 mg Fe/L (after sedimentation / filter inlet), reaching values below 0,05 mg Fe/L in the filtered water. Therefore, Watercel ZF contributed directly to the reduction of elements and the suitability of the water for use in the Water Park’s activities, directly impacting the well-being and health of the bathers.
